Each city has its issues. When invited to run COLORS workshops in universities and creative institutions around the world, we decided to ask participants to compile a survival guide to the place in which they were living.

Each workshop, lasting 4–7 days, comprised three phases, mirroring the editorial process of making a magazine. First, research: participants would go out, observe their city and ask passersby what they liked and disliked about it. Second, production: participants would pick a specific story and tell it in words and pictures. Third, editing: everything would be cut and condensed into a publication.

From how to get around in permanently jammed Sao Paulo to how to pick the right pet for a Saturday walk in Bolzano, from how to find shelter in Turin to how to dress up for Seville’s Semana Santa, each workshop produced a publication that presented a series of bizarre tips about the host city.
